Jyotiṣārṇava: The Jyotisha Of Professions

In today's world, there exists a vast array of opportunities for education, careers, and various professions. Unlike in ancient times, it is no longer a given that the son of a king will inherit the throne. As opportunities expand, many individuals are choosing to pursue their careers abroad. Accurately interpreting this information from a horoscope can be a complex endeavor. Nevertheless, by employing a few established and effective techniques, this task becomes significantly more manageable. In this article, I present a method that has been in use for over 4,000 years, which I refer to as 'Mihira's Master Method,' along with several other straightforward principles. It is important to note that numerous example horoscopes are included in this discussion. I trust that the process of predicting professions will no more cause distress for the students of Jyotisha.

I reviewed numerous articles and books which are written on professions. In one particular book, the methods proposed by classical sources were immediately deemed inaccurate and inadequate for the contemporary world, supported by just two examples. According to certain contemporary authors, the Dasamsa chart (referred to as the D10 chart) is utilized for the purpose of determining one's profession. This notion is fundamentally flawed and lacks logical support, as none of the classical texts endorse the idea that profession can be assessed through the Dashamsh. While this fabricated concept may be applied (albeit made to work forcefully) by these authors, it contradicts the fundamental principles of the subject. As a result, I decided to address this topic through a detailed article.

Some clues have been provided on the authentic utility of Dashamsh. Ancient texts indicate that the Navamsh should be used for determining one's profession, whereas the Dreshkana is used for assessing Karma Phala (results of one's deeds). The subsequent sections of this article will provide a detailed explanation of the Navamsh method.

It is disheartening to see that majority of the books on professions completely overlook Navamsa and utilize Dasamsa even when none of the classical texts support the view. For this very reason, this article is titled 'The Jyotisha Of Professions' where one standard method from ancient treatises is elaborated and explained with many example charts.

1. Preliminaries

ग्रन्थान्तरे -
दशमेशस्य वृत्यैव धनेशस्योचितं धनम्।
लाभाधीशादवाप्नोति विलग्नेशात्मतो नरः।। इति।

[The native, represented by the Lagna Lord, will enjoy the wealth, whose quantum and nature is indicated by the 2nd lord, through the 11th lord following the profession indicated by the 10th lord.]

होरा शतकस्य वचनमाह -
लग्नं धनंच लाभंच जातानां दशमं तथा।
एते भावास्तु विज्ञेया जीविकायास्तु निर्णये।। इति।

[A person's profession should be determined with reference to dispositions of the Lagna, 2nd, 10th and the 11th houses and their lords.]

Jyotirvid Jagannath Bhasin in Hora Shatak states that Lagna, 2nd, 10th and 11th Bhavas along with their Lords should be ascertained for understanding the profession. The main reason behind working is to earn money and sustenance. First preference should be always given to the 10th house and it's Lord followed by 11th and 2nd.

Mihira's Master Method

। इति।

[The planets located in the 10th house from the Lagna or Chandra denote the source of wealth (from the living significations as explained in the verse). The Lord of the Navamsa of the Lords of the 10th house from the Lagna, Chandra or Surya (whichever strong) will determine the nature of profession. A table is attached.]

Notes : To assess strength of Lagna, Chandra or Surya Lagna, the initial chapters of various classics provide numerous insights, which will not be elaborated upon here to ensure the conciseness of this article.

। इति।

The text further narrates the professions associated with every Graha. It is summarised in a table and given below.

Planet

Sūrya

Candra

Agriculture, conch, pearls, help from females.

Kuja

Metals, fire, weapons and courageous acts.

Other classics such as Sarvartha Chintamani, Phaladeepika and Hora Makarand are of similar opinion. Additionally, Hora Makarand gives results of few planetary combinations in the 18th chapter which can be applied according to placements in the 10th Bhava.

Surya's Role In Profession

A special attention should be given to the combinations of Surya for ascertaining the vocations of a native. This method is derived from Brihat Jataka.

Hora Makarand elaborates following results for conjunction of Surya with other Grahas :

Notes : Many scholars argue that the results of conjunction of Surya with Budha or Shukra is not consistently evident in all horoscopes. This skepticism stems from a lack of knowledge and a restricted comprehension of the topic.

The occupations discussed in classics were prevalent in the times when the texts were written. In today's modern world, these require a little modification. A comprehensive understanding of the Karakatvas will surely be helpful in this regard. Besides the Graha Karakatvas, Rashi and Bhava Karakatvas should also be taken into consideration.

Let us summarise this in the form of steps.

Step 1. Determine whether Lagna, Chandra or Surya are strong.

Step 2. Analyse the position of 10th Lord from Lagna and Chandra in the Rashi Chart.

Step 3. Consider the Navamsh dispositor of 10th Lord.

Notes: Arsha Jyotish follows the Varga Adhipa System. Bhavas, Bhava significations, Rashi significations, Arudhas etc are completely invalid in Vargas. This has been dealt seperately in a detailed article which is available for reading on my blog page.

Step 4. Mark the position of Navamsh dispositor of 10th Lord in the Rashi Chart. Carefully analyse the influences of Bhava, Rashi and other Grahas.

Step 5. Combine all the outcomes together and find out the common factors and predict according to Desh-Kala-Patra.

At Glance: 10th Lord In Different Houses

Notes : These occupations have been compiled following a comprehensive understanding of Bhava Karakatvas. This compilation serves as a representative overview rather than a complete enumeration. The outcomes may vary depending on the Lord of the 10th and the influences it encounters. Dr. Raman has used similar method to determine the source of wealth.

Some Example Horoscopes

In this section, I have tried to explain the utilization of the above mentioned principle. Horoscopes of famous personalities as well as common people have been included. I have tried to take example charts which are not discussed in the contemporary books. It is not possible to include every single profession, given the vast number of available options for career. Still, I have tried to demonstrate the prevalent career options.

For this section only the Rasi Chart is provided and not the Navamsa as the software calculates it as an independent chart which is fundamentally incorrect. However, seekers may manually calculate the Navamsa positions as per the degrees.

5.1) Astrologers: Dr B V Raman

Dr Raman was born in Kumbha Lagna (a human sign rising in Lagna) aspected by Shukra, Budha and Kuja from 7th. The 10th house is occupied by Guru in his Ati Mitra Rashi. Guru aspects both Lagnesh and Chandra simultaneously exerting influence on the Lagna due to its presence in 10th. Dr Raman was born in a Brahmin family and his grandfather was an astrologer. Shani-Guru association indicates that the knowledge is received in Parampara (tradition). Gaja Kesari Yoga, Brahma Yoga & Saraswati Yoga confirms that the native will be learned, well versed in scriptures and praised by all.

10th Lord Kuja is in 7th along with Shukra and Budha. Kuja is under benefic influence and forms a Kendra Kona Sambandh assuring success and prosperity. Kuja occupies the Navamsh of Shukra. Vriddha Garga states that Shukra is a Sāmvatsarika (astrologer). 10th Lord Kuja, Yogakaraka Shukra and Karma Karka Budha together in 7th (10th from 10th) ensure that the native will surely reach the top of his field.

Acharya Varāhamihara refres Shukra as सित् (Sita) which means 'one who is brilliant'. Dr. Raman's exceptional expertise in Jyotish, particularly in the realm of mundane predictions, is beyond description. He was among the most distinguished astrologers to have ever lived. His monumental achievement in translating numerous classical texts into English, along with his authorship of several influential books (3rd & 10th Lord associated with Budha and Shukra), continues to captivate the interest of Jyotish students even today. A vast number of students have embarked on their journey of learning Jyotish through the writings of Dr. Raman (Gaja Kesari Yoga). Dashamsh Lagna too falls in Vrishabha while it's Lord Shukra (Yogakaraka) is favourably placed, and his writings continue to be well-regarded, contributing to his enduring reputation.

5.2) Astrologers: Shri C S Patel

Chandra is posited in Thula. Chandra is the Lord of 10th from itself and occupies Shani's Navamsh. He was a company secretary in a textile mill. Shani mostly signifies a job and service. Again in Rashi Chart, Shani is in 12th aspected by Surya, Budha and Guru. From Lagna, the 10th Lord, Kuja, is positioned in the 2nd house from the Lagna, influenced by the aspect of Guru and situated in Budha's Mithuna Navamsh. Shri C. S. Patel was an esteemed authority on Nadi techniques. His profound interest in the study of ancient texts led him to gather manuscripts from various government libraries, which he had translated and subsequently applied in his practice. Notably, even prior to Shri R. Santhanam's translation of the Chandrakala Nadi, Shri C. S. Patel was already engaged in this work. This renowned astrologer authored several books on Nadi, Navamsh, and Ashtakvarga—methods that necessitate calculations and facilitate prompt predictions as signified by Budha.

Notes: Some classical combinations are enumerated here -
i) Daivajna Yoga - Budha in Kendras while Shukra occupying 2nd or 3rd Bhava in its Uccha Rashi and 2nd Lord is in dignity.
ii) Trikalajna Yoga - Budha and Shukra in conjunction while Guru is in Shubha Vargas and aspected by Budha and Shukra.
iii) Matsya Yoga - 1st and 9th has Saumya Grahas, 5th has one Saumya and one Kroora while 4th and 8th have Krooras.

5.3) Religious Preachers: Swami Chinmayananda

Lagna is Vrischika aspected by Guru & Budha. Chandra is in Swarashi in 9th along with Lagnesh Kuja & Ketu receiving an aspect from Guru. Both Jnanakaraka Guru and Vidyakaraka Budha are Vargottama. 10th from Chandra is occupied by Surya (Bhagvad Geeta & Vedanta) while 10th Lord Kuja is in Guru's Navamsh.

Swami Chinmayananda was a spiritual leader and teacher who started 'Chinmaya Mission' in order to spread the knowledge of Bhagvad Geeta, Advaita Vedanta, Upanishads and several other scriptures. He popularized these texts worldwide with his English translations and detailed commentaries.

5.4) Science: Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam

The 10th house from Chandra is occupied by Mandi. The lord of the 10th house from Chandra is Surya, who resides in the 3rd Bhava with Budha and Ketu. Surya holds Vargottama status in the Navamsha of Budha. Budha governs the domains of mathematics and physics. The presence of Ketu indicates involvement in technical fields that require precise calculations and observations. Additionally, Ketu is associated with aircrafts, missiles, nuclear armaments, and munitions. Dr. Kalam, recognized as an aerospace scientist, contributed significantly while working at esteemed institutions such as DRDO and ISRO. He is often referred to as the Missile Man of India due to his pivotal role in the advancement of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technologies.

5.5) Singers: Smt Lata Mangeshkar

10th Lord from Chandra is Kuja in Vargottamamsa and placed in the Navamsh of Shukra. Shukra is in 4th confirming that the native shall be well versed with music. Chandra present in the 3rd (According to Satyacharya, 3rd Bhava rules voice & music) in a feminine sign of Karka (own sign), gave a soft and melodious voice. Mahabhagya Yoga is also present in the horoscope which made her fortunate.

5.6) Singers: Smt Manik Verma

10th Lord from Chandra is Guru in the Navamsh of Shukra. Shukra is posited in 4th confirming the knowledge of music. Guru is posited in 3rd Bhava of singing and music while 3rd Lord is in exaltation in 11th. Smt Manik Varma belonged to the Agra Gharana. Besides the pure classical khyal, she also sang semi-classical and light music like Thumri, Marathi Natya Sangeet, Bhavgeet and Bhakti geet. Agra Gharana demands that the projection of voice be more forceful and voluminous than usually encountered in khayal gayaki (Kuja is conjoined with Guru).

5.7) Poets: Rabindranath Tagore

10th is occupied by Rahu while it's dispositor is Uccha confirming success, fame and accolades. 10th Lord Guru is in Uccha Rashi in 5th (5th Lord is in Lagna) and in Shani's Navamsa. 10th Lord in 5th indicates professions related to arts, music, intelligence, teaching, thinking, philosophy etc. The illustrious Saraswati Yoga is present in the horoscope. The Navamsh dispositor Shani is in 6th denoting service to the society. Tagore played an important role in social reforms. Guru's Dwadashamsh dispositor is Shukra denoting fields like poetry and art. Tagore was the first non-European to win the Nobel Prize in literature for his work Gitanjali. His compositions were chosen by two nations as national anthems: India's "Jana Gana Mana" and Bangladesh's "Amar Shonar Bangla". The Sri Lankan national anthem was also inspired by his work. His song "Banglar Mati Banglar Jol" has been adopted as the state anthem of West Bengal. The Dashamsh Lagna is Meena while it's Lord Guru is in exaltation in Rashi Chart. This confirms a long lasting fame.

5.8) Spiritual Leaders: Aurobindo Ghose

Lagna falls in Karka occupied by 9th and 10th Lords Guru & Kuja. 10th Lord Kuja is in the Navamsh of Surya who is placed in 2nd along with Budha & Shukra. He was also a journalist and the editor of newspapers such as Bande Mataram (Navamshesh of 10th Lord is with Shukra and Budha). Saraswati Yoga is also present in the horoscope. Sri Aurobindo was also a philosopher and a poet. He was jailed during Chandra-Shani-Guru and he had some mystical experiences in the prison which lead him to the path of spirituality.

Notes

i) Saraswati Yoga - When Shukra, Guru and Budha are posited in Kendra, Trikona or 2nd Bhava and Guru is in Uccha, Swa or Mitra Rashi and possesses strength, the Yoga formed is called Saraswati. This native with Saraswati Yoga in his birth chart is highly intelligent, good at dramatics, in prose composition, versifying accounts and poetics. He is skilled in poetry, narrative description and in the exposition of the sacred lore. He is well known and reputed all over the world. He is prosperous and blessed with wife and children. He is fortunate and respected even by the best of the rulers.

5.9) Education Sector: Teacher

The Lagna falls in first half of Dhanu. Chandra is in Mesha. 10th Lord from Chandra is Shani in its Uccha Rashi and occupying Guru's Navamsh as well as Dwadashamsh. From the Lagna, 10th Lord (also the Lord of the birth Tithi - Tritiya) is in 5th indicating wealth through fields related to intelligence, knowledge, skills and children. This horoscope belongs to a teacher. Before working as a teacher, this native was associated with an intelligence agency and later found his passion in teaching.

5.10) Fashion Designer

The 10th Bhava from Lagna is occupied by Chandra who is Vargottama, Guru and Rahu. The 10th Lord from Chandra is Kuja placed in the Navamsh of Chandra. According to Sri Sarvartha Chintamani, the profession is related to clothes. Rahu's presence with its dispositor in the 10th itself confirms success and reputation. This female native is a fashion designer who started her business in Budha-Budha-Rahu which failed leading to bankruptcy. Later on, she migrated to a foreign country and started working in other designing houses (3rd and 6th Lord is in 10th with 10th Lord showing service).

5.11) Army

The 10th Lord from Chandra is Shukra in Ayudha Dreshkana occupying 4th along with Surya and Kuja, both Kshatriya Grahas. Shukra is in the Navamsh of Chandra. Thus, it is clear that the native will serve the motherland. The Prakash Graha viz. Surya and Chandra signify higher positions in any institution (not necessarily government jobs). The native was a colonel in the army.

5.12) Politicians: Indira Gandhi

10th & 5th Lord Kuja is Vargottama in 2nd and in Parivartan Sambandh with Surya who occupies 5th. This Parivartan Sambandh is strengthened as Surya is in Swa-Navamsh. It is a clear indication that the profession will be similar to other family members (here father as signified by Surya). Smt Gandhi's father Jawaharlal Nehru was also a politician and Prime Minister of India.

Sri Sarvartha Chintamani states that acquisition of power should also be analysed from the 2nd Bhava. Here, 10th Lord is Vargottama in 2nd and it's dispositor is in Trikona. Smt Gandhi was the former Prime Minister of India. She held the post from 1966 to 1977 and again in 1980 to her assassination in 1984.

Kirtikaraka Guru aspects both the Prakash Grahas viz Surya and Chandra (Lagnesh) which made her popular. However, Shani as the Lord of 7th and 8th aspects the 10th from Lagna - a combination ensuring both rise and fall. Kuja, a Krura as 10th Lord, in Krura Amsha and 10th being aspected by Shani, she took few decisions like declaration of emergency which were termed ruthless and cruel.

Notes : Few classical combinations for attaining higher positions are listed here :

i) Raja Yoga - If the 4th and 10th Lords are in exaltation, or own or friendly sign while there is a benefic planet in any one angle from the ascendant, the native will enjoy Raja Yoga effects.
ii) Raja Yoga - If the 9th lord is in the 9th and the 10th Lord is in the 10th, in aspect to the lord of the 5th house, there will arise a Raja Yoga leading to professional fortunes.
iii) Rajendra Yoga - If the 10th Lord is exalted and is in the company of the Lords of 5th or 9th, the native will be the head of rulers.

Birth is in Udaya Lagna. Lagnesh Guru is in 10th while the 10th Lord Budha is in 12th with Shukra under the aspect of Kuja in the Amsha of Shani i.e in Dhanamsa. Guru though debilitated in Navamsh, occupies Dhanamsa and aspects Dhanesh Shani posited in 2nd creating a Dhana Yoga. For Dhanu Lagna, Shani as 3rd Lord in 2nd will indicate that wealth is earned after struggles and hardships. The wealth will be through the significations of Shani, Guru and Budha. Before starting Reliance Industries, Dhirubhai Ambani worked at a gas station as a petrol vendor (Shani). After settling in Mumbai, he started selling spices and focused on exporting it in foreign countries (10th & 7th Lord Budha is in 12th). Later, he ventured into textile industry & petrochemicals focusing on different commodities.

Surya & Chandra, the royal Grahas, occupy the Lagna and Lagnesh is in 10th. This makes the native earn wealth through his own efforts. Anapha, Sunapha, Durudhara and Gaja Kesari Yoga have strengthened Chandra who is already present in Pushkaramsha & Labhamsh. He also earned through textiles.

5.14) Businessman: R P Goenka

Here, the Lagna is Mesha while Lagnesh is in 10th in exaltation occupying the Navamsh of Surya. Lagnesh in 10th denotes self employment or business while presence in the Amsha of Surya confirms it. Surya is in 11th along with Chandra and Shukra under the aspect of Shani and Ketu. A strong Dhana Yoga is present in the horoscope and Vargottama Guru in Dhanamsa strengthens it further. Budha, a businessman is in the 10th Bhava and 10th Lord Shani is in the Amsha of Budha. R P Goenka is one of the business tycoons of India. On his father's death, the wealth was split between the three brothers and R P Goenka established the RPG Enterprises in 1979. In Rahu-Rahu-Shukra Dasha, the Government of India conferred her with the Padma Shri Award. Rahu posited in Kendras with Yogakaraka planets may bestow accolades during its Dasha periods.

5.16) Actor: Paul Newman

Lagna is strengthened as it is occupied by Lagnesh (Digbali Guru) and Shubha Grahas viz. Budha and Shukra. 10th Lord Budha occupies Lagna (Digbali) in the Nakshatra & Navamsh of Shukra. Saraswati Yoga is present from both Lagna and Chandra. Paul Newman is a popular hollywood movie star. Lagnesh and Dashamesh are conjoined in Lagna. In Budha-Guru he was awarded with Academy Award.

5.17) An Unique Field - Gamer

Here, the 10th Lord from Lagna is Budha (also the Karaka for professions) in 6th aspected by Kuja and in conjunction with Surya. This indicates fields with competition and where one needs to deal with enemies. This native is working as a gamer who plays online games like chess and shooter games (the overall chart denotes agressive tendencies). This native is into entertainment industry and is an internet personality as both 10th Lord from Chandra as well as Lagna are in Shukra Navamsh while Shukra aspects the Lagna.

5.18) Computer Scientist

Here, Budha and Ketu are posited in 10th under the aspect of Guru. Budha is in the Navamsh of Shani while Shani occupies 6th (service) in Kumbha (technology). Ketu rules programming languages, computer devices, mathematics, coding, etc. Budha with Ketu under the aspect of Guru denotes the knowledge of computer science. This native is a computer scientist and also an educator who worked at administrative positions (Shani is Mooltrikona and Budha in Swarashi) in information technology department. He was the head of a computer education programme which consisted about 400+ institutions.

5.19) Doctor

The horoscope details have been taken with gratitude from 'How To Judge A Horoscope Vol 2' by Dr. B. V. Raman & Smt. Gayatri Devi Vasudev. (Rf. Chart No. 151 Page No. 298)

10th from the Lagna is occupied by Surya, Kuja and Rahu in Karka - the sign of nursing, indicating medical sector. Surya is significator of medicine. Bhavartha Ratnakara states that Surya, Budha or Rahu in 5th is well versed with Jyotish and physician who cures poison. Here, Chandra - dispositor of Surya and Rahu is in 5th aspected by Budha. 10th Lord in 5th along with Yogakaraka (4th & 5th Lord) Shani conferred him international reputation in his field.

5.20) A Dacoit

Jyotirvid Jagannath Bhasin in his book Hora Shatak gives the horoscope of Man Singh, a dacoit. However, the details are unavailable.

Rahu is placed in 10th from Chandra & it's Lord is Kuja placed in 8th. Kuja gets the aspect of Ketu while 10th Lord from Lagna is debiliated and in conjunction with Ketu. Kuja aspects 2nd, 11th, 11th Lord Budha and Shukra (dispositor of Surya & Lord of 10th from 10th i.e. 7th). Here, Kuja will indicate the source of livelihood. 10th Lord from both Lagna and Chandra being afflicted, Man Singh was involved in unlawful activities. He is a 'famous' dacoit of India born in 1890.

NOTE: In this article, I have selected Lagna or Chandra Lagna based on its strength. This analysis is derived from the principles outlined in the early chapters of classical texts.

Guru-Candāla Yoga

Guru Chandala Yoga is one of the more controversial and widely discussed yogas in Jyotiṣa. For a long period of time it has been used as a tool for fear-mongering to generate good amount of income after creating hypothetical stories of past life and what not! To me this appears to be a marketing gimmick and nothing less than a corrupt practice which maligns the science of Jyotiṣa. In this article, certain aspects of this combination have been discussed with classical references and examples. Image Source: Pinterest Classical Dictums The Candrakalā Nāḍī declares — गुरुचण्डालयोगोऽपि पापकृत्यरतः प्रदः। [Even when the Guru–Caṇḍāla Yoga occurs, the native becomes inclined toward sinful or impure actions.] This dictum refers to the conjunction of Bṛhaspati with Rāhu, a combination known in Jyotiṣa as Guru-Caṇḍāla Yoga. The symbolism behind this union is deeply instructive. Bṛhaspati is the preceptor of the Devas, a Brāhmaṇa by nature, and the embodiment of sattva-guṇa. Whereas, Rāhu symboliz...

Phaladīpikā: Saraswati Yoga

The Saraswati Yoga is regarded as one of the most significant Yogas present in the horoscopes of poets, authors, writers, Nobel laureates, philosophers, and intellectuals. Its esoteric meaning extends far beyond the mere display of artistic talent or intellectual capability. Devi Saraswati, the goddess of knowledge and arts, symbolizes the transmission of divine wisdom from the cosmic consciousness into individual awareness. The presence of this yoga indicates that the soul has attained the privilege to convey higher knowledge through creative expression. The scribe has observed this Yoga functioning reliably, despite arguments suggesting its occurrence in numerous horoscopes. Bṛhat Jātaka: The First Shloka

Brihat Jātaka, composed by Acharya Varahamihira, is regarded as an exceptionally intricate text. It can be aptly likened to the phrase 'घागर में सागर,' symbolizing the vastness of the ocean contained within a single vessel. For centuries, this work has been imparted within the esteemed traditions of Kerala, accompanied by the commentaries of scholars such as Bhattotpala, Govinda Bhattattiri, Rudra, and Kannassa Panicker. Additionally, the text contains numerous concealed insights on Prashna, which have been examined in the Prashna Margam. The author of Prashna Margam holds Brihat Jataka and Dasadhyayi in high regard, stating the following : (Translations by Dr. B. V. Raman) तस्याः पुनः पदुधियामपि दुर्गमोर्थः। भट्टोत्पलादिरचिता विष्वृतीर्विलोक्य स्पष्टं करोतु हृदि दैवविदर्थमस्याः॥ [Brihat Jataka by Varahamihira, though short, is a very suggestive treatise pregnant with ideas. Though difficult to be comprehended by even intelligent persons, yet with the aid of the commentaries of...

Jyotiṣavimarśa: Divisional Charts - A Misnomer

The topics of Vargas and Nakshatras are among the most frequently misunderstood subjects in Jyotish, largely due to contemporary authors who neglect to engage with classical texts. In the present context, Vargas are often regarded as separate charts, wherein factors such as houses, aspects, Arudha, and Nakshatras are taken into account. While this approach may appear valid, it contradicts the foundational principles of the Arsha Jyotish system. There are mathematical justifications for this, a consideration that many astrologers overlook. A recent post of mine on X (formerly Twitter) provoked a response from several astrologers, who subsequently published articles containing factual inaccuracies, mistranslated verses, and other misleading information in an attempt to discredit my views. It is a well-known fact that the astrological community harbors numerous insecure and envious individuals who seek to undermine others simply because their opinions do not align with their personal rese...

Vivāha Jyotisa: Kalatra Viveka

Kalatra Sthāna, or the 7th Bhāva, represents vivāha (marriage), which is one of the sixteen sanskāras within Sanātan Dharma. While the 7th bhāva encompasses various significations, our primary focus today is to explore the concept of marriage.  I have previously received feedback indicating that the Horā Muktāvali commentary on Brihat Jātaka became easy to comprehend through the Guru-Shishya Samvada. Therefore, this article is structured as a dialogue between a Guru and his students. It features an interactive discussion led by a scholar from the esteemed Kerala tradition, accompanied by his knowledgeable students: Uma, Madhusudan, Shridhar, Medha, Keshav, and Aniruddha. Following an enlightening conversation on Brihat Jātaka, the students have convened around their Guru to delve into the subject of Vivāha, or marriage.  I have endeavored to present this work in a format akin to that of the Nadi Granthas, wherein the student poses inquiries and the Guru provides responses. In ...
